K. Vikram Rastogi a technologist and marketing expert made an interesting presentation on Emerging Export Markets on 15th December, 2017 at 7th Global Stone Technology Forum organized by Centre for Development of Stones and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry. Starting with a world map, be explained the existing markets, potential markets and emerging markets in the world. Factors influencing these market-per capita income; use of stone; climatic conditions; colours, patterns and designs in vogue; landed price to consumers; application for residential, commercial and mega infrastructure projects were also elaborated.

 

He carried out a critical analysis using different tables relating to World Stone Export in 2016; country wise quarry production, raw import and export, finished production,  import and export of stones; stone exchange for countries and types:  leading extra – european, import export. He explained the emerging markets for raw and special  finished products for Indian manufacturers and exporters.

 

China is the largest importer of raw marble and granite blocks from India.

 

USA, Canada, United Kingdom and Germany are existing markets where Indians can export finished products. Warehouses can also be opened in these countries. Mexico, Bolivia in South America; Angola, Sudan, Togo, Botswana and Kenya in Africa can be tapped for export. While Saudi Arabia would have significant demand, Dubai Expo 2020 in Dubai and World Cup 2022 in Qatar would also  require large quantity of stones. Other emerging markets will be Olympic Games 2020 in Tokyo, Japan and Asian Games 2018 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
